NetBeacon Reporter introduces new features as it reaches 50,000 DNS Abuse Reports
Since launching NetBeacon Reporter in 2022, we’ve engaged with registrars and DNS Abuse reporters to onboard users, increase reports, and collect ideas for improvements.
Today we’re pleased to share that we’ve sent over 50,000 reports of DNS Abuse. This achievement marks significant progress in our work to support the DNS ecosystem in combating phishing and other types of DNS Abuse. Each report submitted via NetBeacon Reporter is part of a global effort to address abuse, and contributes to making the Internet safer for everyone. These reports are automatically enriched, standardized, and sent to gTLD registrars and participating ccTLD registries.
To continue this mission we’re excited to announce several new features:
- Mitigation Monitor: Reporters can now track the status of their submissions. This feedback loop was the most requested feature from users, allowing reporters to see if and when incidents have been resolved. We’re tracking changes to domain status, nameservers, IPs, and content for submitted URLs for up to 7 days after submission. Results are available both via the API and web app.netbeacon.org
- Automatic Reporting to Hosts: NetBeacon Reporter now automatically and simultaneously sends all reports of DNS Abuse to the associated hosting providers. This means that we can help disrupt malicious domains and content simultaneously, and that reports for compromised websites get to the appropriate place to mitigate faster.
- ccTLD Integration: ccTLD registries can now integrate with NetBeacon Reporter to receive and manage reports in line with their local policies and processes. Integration can be as simple as providing an email address, or could involve connecting via API. Already receiving reports are 15 ccTLDs, including some of the largest, like de, uk, eu, br, nz and ca.
NetBeacon Reporter was introduced to both improve the quality of reports of DNS Abuse and reduce complexity for anyone reporting DNS Abuse. We want to thank our friends at CleanDNS in particular for their development and maintenance of NetBeacon Reporter, which they generously donated, and to Abusix for access to their abuse contact database.
Join Us at ICANN81 in Istanbul
The NetBeacon team will be attending ICANN81 to share insights and connect with other DNS stakeholders. We’re eager to discuss collaboration opportunities to further DNS Abuse prevention efforts. These new features reinforce our commitment to reducing and preventing DNS Abuse. Thanks to the dedication of our community. Together, we’re building a safer internet—one report at a time.
